Leader of the Opposition and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman warned the government against losing composure out of political frustration, urging the administration to concede to public demands rather than reacting rashly to opposition mobilization.
Addressing the inaugural rally of the 11-party alliance's Dhaka-to-Rangpur long march at Manik Mia Avenue on Saturday morning, Shafiqur stated that the successful staging of their earlier Dhaka-to-Chattogram convoy had triggered unease within ruling quarters. He pointed out that visible signs of this volatility had surfaced in the capital over the preceding two days.
Urging the authorities to exercise restraint, the Jamaat chief cautioned that the opposition's current eight-point charter of demands could expand or consolidate into a single-point movement to unseat the government if ignored. "Remember, it can become nine points, it can become ten points, and at any moment, for the sake of the nation, it can turn into a one-point demand," he warned, adding that circumstances would turn grave once such a shift occurs. He advised ruling policymakers to draw lessons from the recent past and resolve the crisis before pushing the political climate to a point of no return.
Shafiqur declared that no conspiracies would derail the street movement, reiterating that the alliance is not agitating for narrow partisan interests but is voicing the grievances of 180 million citizens. Asserting that the public stands resolutely behind the 11-party bloc, he pledged that demonstrators would remain on the streets until their core demands are fulfilled.
