Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated that the 11-party alliance's long march represents the collective aspirations of Bangladesh’s 180 million citizens rather than any partisan interest, asserting that the demonstration would have been unnecessary had the government honored the public referendum mandate.
Addressing a roadside rally as the chief guest at Palashbari Chowrasta on the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway in Gaibandha on Saturday night, the Jamaat chief said the opposition took to the streets due to widespread governance failures.
"Had the July Charter been implemented, we would not have marched," Shafiqur said. "If extortion had ceased, corruption been eradicated, uninterrupted electricity guaranteed, farmers provided fair-priced fertilizer, and citizens assured safety in their homes, this long march would never have taken place."
Warning the administration against stonewalling, he swore by Allah that none of the demands serve factional goals, but rather represent basic national imperatives. "If the government ignores these demands, today’s eight-point charter may expand to nine or ten points tomorrow, and ultimately converge into a single-point demand for the government's ouster. We are not pursuing that single point right now; we are giving the government time for good sense to prevail," he warned, cautioning that complicity with injustice carries equal guilt.
Shafiqur urged supporters to prepare for a reverse march from rural regions toward the capital if authorities fail to heed public grievances. Highlighting the plight of women and children amid declining public safety, he expressed gratitude to the thousands of women who lined the highways to express solidarity, expressing confidence that their involvement signals the movement's eventual victory.
The rally was also addressed by Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmad, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, NCP Chief Organizer Nasiruddin Patwary, and student leaders.
