Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar has accused the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)—rather than Jamaat—of utilizing religion in election campaigns, claiming that the BNP is actively running its electoral drives centered around religious institutions and religious identities.
Golam Parwar made these allegations on Sunday (October 25) while responding to queries from journalists at the Agargaon Election Office in Dhaka.
He stated that multiple reports of electoral code violations by the BNP have emerged, including the use of colorful campaign images of the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol, conducting campaigns under the guise of union-level medical camps, and issuing direct threats to voters in Hindu-majority areas by associates of the BNP candidate. He remarked that if such intimidation continues, voters belonging to the Hindu community will not feel safe or find the courage to cast their ballots.
Golam Parwar highlighted that the electoral manifesto clearly stipulated that religious institutions must not be exploited for election campaigning. While allegations of using religion are often leveled against Jamaat-e-Islami, he maintained that in reality, it is the BNP that is weaponizing religion for electoral advantage.
Furthermore, the Jamaat leader alleged administrative bias, claiming that the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Thakurgaon Sadar is actively working in favor of the BNP candidate. He also accused the local police administration of demonstrating explicit partisan allegiance.
Asserting that free, fair, and impartial elections are entirely impossible under a police force driven by partisan loyalty, Golam Parwar demanded the deployment of the military to ensure a credible election. Simultaneously, he demanded the immediate removal of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Khairul Islam.
