Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar
BNP has learned from the Awami League that "it is democracy before coming to power, and autocracy once in power," remarked Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar. Accusing the BNP of treading a fascist path, he asserted that despite different party names, there is no fundamental difference in the political character of the Awami League and BNP.
He made the remarks as the chief guest on Monday afternoon (October 26) at a discussion titled "Blood-Stained October 28, the Rise of Fascism: Challenges and Way Forward for Building Desired Bangladesh," held at the Abdus Salam Hall of the National Press Club.
Golam Parwar stated that extortion, killings, and illegal occupation continue unabated just as before, with only the names of the perpetrators changing.
Criticizing the political climate, the Jamaat secretary general recalled that on the final day of the Four-Party Alliance government on October 28, 2006, Jamaat had called for joint programs, which the BNP declined. He raised questions over whether the BNP had a secret understanding with fascist forces to dismantle Islamic movements, noting that such doubts still linger in the public mind.
He demanded a judicial inquiry into the October 28, 2006 incidents, the arrest of those responsible, and the revival of cases withdrawn during the previous Awami League tenure.
Presided over by Dhaka South Jamaat Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul, the seminar featured a keynote paper presented by central Majlis-e-Shura member Abdul Mannan. Assistant Publicity Secretary of Dhaka South Abdus Sattar Sumon moderated the event.
Other speakers included Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad, Dhaka South Secretary Shafiqul Islam Masud, Dhaka-5 MP Mohammad Kamal Hossain, Islami Chhatra Shibir Central President Nurul Islam Saddam, DUCSU VP Md. Abu Sadik (Sadik Kayem), Barrister A S M Shahriar Kabir, and Dhaka Union of Journalists President Shahidul Islam, alongside family members of those killed on October 28, 2006.
