Gono Odhikar Parishad Faridpur district president Farhad Hossain speaks at the meeting
Farhad Hossain, president of Gono Odhikar Parishad’s Faridpur district unit, warned that the foundation of the ruling BNP would shake if his party withdraws its support right now. He further cautioned that if fair rights and due recognition are denied, the BNP might find itself caught in a political trap.
He made these remarks on Monday evening (October 26) during a discussion meeting held at the Faridpur Press Club auditorium. The event, which included a cake-cutting ceremony to mark the party's fifth founding anniversary, drew leaders and activists from various upazilas across the district. Multiple speakers voiced deep frustration over the BNP's current conduct toward its alliance partners.
Speakers pointed out that Gono Odhikar Parishad activists stood firmly on the ground through the August 5 mass uprising to ensure its success. Following the change of regime, the BNP assumed power, but despite Gono Odhikar Parishad being an alliance partner, its leaders and activists are being deprived of their due rights.
Directly addressing the ruling party, Farhad Hossain said, "The way you are treating us resembles how the Awami League used to treat its opponents. Under Awami rule, your workers were so terrified of a single ward leader that they could not sleep at home and had to hide out in paddy fields. It was Gono Odhikar Parishad that spoke out, mobilized through words, helped organize the revolution, and brought you to power. You partnered with us, but you have failed to grant us our rightful share."
Criticizing the BNP's growing dominance in government offices and administrative institutions, he added, "You do not seem to value Gono Odhikar activists. You may think you have millions of cadres, but Hasina also had millions, yet she could not stay in the country and had to flee. Therefore, respect and evaluate your alliance partners. If Gono Odhikar Parishad steps away from the BNP right now, your very foundation will be shaken."
Farhad Hossain further noted that while Jamaat and NCP are trying to create distance between Gono Odhikar Parishad and the BNP, the top leadership of Gono Odhikar Parishad is mature and will not fall into that trap. However, he warned that if mistreatment persists nationwide, they might set a new trap for the BNP, clarifying that they seek their legitimate rights rather than political traps.
Other speakers at the gathering included District General Secretary Sheikh Rubel, Senior Vice President Firoz Sheikh, Vice Presidents Monir Chowdhury, Zia Khan, Alimuzzaman Lablu, and Alamgir Shikder, Organizing Secretary Sheikh Zahid Hasan, Jubo Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Bayezid Hossain Bipul, and Sramik Odhikar Parishad Vice President Sohel Khan.
