Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr. Shafiqur Rahman
The bond between the peoples of Bangladesh and Turkey rests on centuries of historical kinship and is poised to deepen in the coming days, remarked Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, MP.
He made the observations while addressing as chief guest the "Second International Conference on Bangladesh Studies," hosted on Friday (October 9) at Istanbul University under the theme "Multidimensional Perspectives on Reforms of Bangladesh 2.0 and New Horizons of Turkey-Bangladesh Cooperation." The event was jointly organized by Istanbul University and the Center for Policy and Social Research (CPSR).
The international conclave brought together prominent academics, policymakers, diplomats, researchers, and institutional delegates from Bangladesh, Turkey, and beyond to examine the nation's ongoing structural reforms, future statecraft, and bilateral cooperation prospects. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman emphasized that such forums serve a vital role in advancing global Bangladesh-centric research, facilitating policy dialogues, and enabling cross-national knowledge exchange.
Highlighting the civilizational roots of the alliance, the opposition leader noted that bilateral relations are neither recent developments nor confined to the past few decades, affirming that the historical camaraderie with the Turkish populace spans centuries and will flourish further moving forward. Keynote addresses were presented by Dr. Yasin Aktay, former advisor to the Turkish president and professor at Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University, alongside Dr. Mokarram Hossain of Swansea University, UK. Istanbul University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Adak delivered the opening address. Other notable speakers included Chairman of the Turkey-Bangladesh Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Akif Yilmaz MP, Turkish lawmaker Mustafa Kaya MP, Bangladeshi MP Barrister Mahbubul Alam Salehi, and CPSR Chairman Dr. Hafizur Rahman, among other international scholars.
