Rashtra Sangskar Andolan President Hasnat Quaiyum
Rashtra Sangskar Andolan President Hasnat Quaiyum stated that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman himself would face the greatest political jeopardy if the July Charter and the verdict of the national referendum remain unfulfilled. He emphasized that there is no scope for compromise regarding the eradication of the autocratic system and the materialization of the mass uprising's core aspirations.
Quaiyum made the remarks on Saturday (October 17) during a discussion titled "Commitments to Reform and the Politics of Deception," held at the party’s central office in Meherba Plaza to mark the first anniversary of signing the July Charter.
Calling for a simultaneous movement alongside all democratic forces to enforce the charter and the referendum's mandate, Quaiyum warned that failing to take up this challenge would betray the blood of thousands of martyrs, including Abu Sayed and Miraj.
He claimed that not all BNP leaders and workers oppose the referendum results or the July Charter. Instead, he argued that a specific faction within the party, swayed by domestic and foreign interests, did not actively take part in the uprising and is now conspiring against the public mandate. Should this conspiracy succeed, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman would be the most vulnerable, Quaiyum asserted.
In his welcome address, Didar Bhuiyan, Joint General Secretary of Rashtra Sangskar Andolan, accused the government of adopting outright deceit regarding the July Charter and referendum mandate. Fahim Mashroor, Convener of the Referendum Implementation Citizens Forum, alleged that the BNP-led government is deceiving its own grassroots activists the most over these core reform issues. Other speakers included Justice and Democracy Party Convener Nayeem Ahmad Sarker, martyr Miraj’s father Abdur Rauf Mia, and founding member of Rashtra Sangskar Andolan Syed Hasibuddin Hossain.
