Daily Sun organized a significant roundtable titled “Global Standards, Local Roots: Adapting English-Medium Education for a New Bangladesh” at its Dhaka office. The event was held in partnership with international exam board OxfordAQA, education consultancy NWC, and Brit Academy London.
The roundtable began at 11 a.m., with keynote addresses delivered by Sabrina Shahid, Principal of Sir John Wilson School; Md. Shahin Reza, Country Director, Bangladesh, OxfordAQA; Tahni Yasmin, Director of Business Development, British Council; Sabbir Alam, Operations Manager, Brit Academy; Md. Wahed Ibne Shahed, VP & Head of Retail Banking, Trust Bank PLC; Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia, Vice-Chancellor, United International University; and Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, Secretary, University Grants Commission (UGC), Bangladesh.
The session was moderated by Daily Sun’s Executive Director Tasveer Ul Islam, while the newspaper’s Editor, Rezaul Karim Lotus, delivered the welcome address.
Nearly 20 leading English-medium schools, including Sir John Wilson School, Sanidel School, and Hardco International School, participated along with principals, vice-principals, and representatives from educational consultancies, banks, and corporate institutions. The panel discussion addressed achievements, challenges, funding, and future directions for English-medium education in Bangladesh. Speakers emphasized policy support, public-private partnerships, teacher development, and alignment with international standards to strengthen the sector.
During the event, Daily Sun also officially launched a new magazine, “Beyond Borders”, which will provide students, parents, and education professionals with research-based insights, global opportunities, and guidance on English-medium and higher education.

Saiful Seraj Saif, Head of Student Banking, City Bank PLC; Zubayer Naim, Head of Business Development (Schools), British Council; Md. Organizers expressed hope that the roundtable and the magazine launch would foster productive dialogue, policy development, and practical strategies for advancing English-medium education and higher education in Bangladesh.
