Bangladesh's capital market closed the week on a positive note on Thursday, with key indices of both Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) posting gains alongside a sharp increase in trading turnover.
At the DSE, the benchmark DSEX index advanced 33 points at the close of trading. The Shariah-based DSES index gained two points, while the blue-chip DS30 index rose eight points.
Market breadth remained positive, with share prices of 214 listed companies advancing, 116 declining and 62 remaining unchanged.
Total turnover on the premier bourse climbed to Tk 1,428 crore, up from Tk 1,156 crore recorded in the previous trading session.
Desh General Insurance Company Limited emerged as the day's top gainer on the DSE, rising nearly 10 percent, while FAS Finance & Investment Limited was the biggest loser, shedding around 8 percent.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange also finished in positive territory, with its benchmark CASPI index gaining 29 points.
Of the traded issues, 125 companies advanced, 91 declined and 31 remained unchanged.
Turnover at the CSE rose to nearly Tk 5 crore, compared with around Tk 3 crore in the previous session.
Nahee Aluminum Composite Panel PLC and Meghna Insurance PLC were the top gainers on the CSE, each climbing nearly 10 percent, while EXIM Bank 1ST Mutual Fund was the session's worst performer, falling 10 percent.
