The country's capital market extended its upward momentum for a second consecutive trading session today as renewed investor confidence triggered broad-based buying across the market.
The benchmark DSEX index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) gained 60.5 points to close at 5,900, up from 5,840 in the previous session.
Market analysts said investor sentiment improved amid easing geopolitical concerns following a temporary pause in retaliation in the Middle East conflict, alongside expectations of favourable earnings in several sectors.
Buying interest gathered pace after the mid-session, lifting the benchmark index close to the 5,900 level for the first time in about two weeks.
Turnover on the premier bourse rose sharply by 44.6 percent to Tk 12.6 billion from Tk 8.7 billion in the previous session, reflecting stronger market participation.
Among the sectors, textiles dominated turnover with a 23.0 percent share, followed by engineering (14.4 percent) and pharmaceuticals (11.4 percent).
All major sectors ended higher, with textiles and life insurance each advancing 2.3 percent, while the food sector gained 2.0 percent.
Out of 396 issues traded on the DSE, 282 advanced, 57 declined and 57 remained unchanged.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher, with the Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) rising 78.7 points and the All Share Price Index (CASPI) gaining 134.4 points.
