Bangladesh received US$2.859 billion in remittances through formal banking channels in July, the first month of the 2026-27 fiscal year, marking a strong year-on-year increase.
According to a report released by Bangladesh Bank on Sunday, the remittance inflow for the month stood at US$2.859 billion, equivalent to around Tk 35,400 crore at an exchange rate of Tk 123.83 per US dollar.
During the same month of the previous fiscal year, expatriate Bangladeshis had sent home US$2.478 billion. The latest figure represents a 15.4 percent increase compared to July last year.
The July inflow also exceeded the US$2.82 billion received in June, the final month of the 2025-26 fiscal year.
Bangladesh Bank data further showed that total remittance inflows through legal channels reached US$35.59 billion during the 2025-26 fiscal year, covering the period from July to June. In the previous fiscal year, the country received US$30.329 billion in remittances.
The annual remittance inflow therefore increased by approximately US$5.26 billion, or 17.3 percent, setting a new all-time record for Bangladesh in a single fiscal year.
Officials at Bangladesh Bank attributed the continued growth in remittance inflows to the government's measures against hundi, cash incentives for expatriate workers, expansion of banking services and greater access to legal money transfer channels.
