Qatar Energy has notified buyers across Europe and Asia of continued liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo cancellations due to mounting security risks in the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing US-Iran conflict disruptions.
Reports indicate that Qatar Energy informed Pakistani buyers of cargo cancellations persisting into October, while extending the force majeure period for LNG deliveries to Bangladesh beyond September. Italian energy company Edison confirmed receiving notification of extended supply suspensions stretching into early November, bringing its total affected LNG cargoes to 29.
Qatari LNG exports remain severely constrained as diplomatic efforts continue, including recent talks between Qatari leadership and Iranian officials in Tehran. Qatar Energy initially declared force majeure on March 4 following maritime disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. Subsequent missile strikes on the Ras Laffan processing facility damaged critical infrastructure, reducing Qatar's total LNG export capacity by 17 percent. Further security risks emerged in July when the Qatari LNG tanker Al Reqayat sustained port-side damage during a transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
