The government has decided to cancel the remaining contractual appointments of the managing directors (MDs) and chief executive officers (CEOs) of three state-owned banks—Agrani Bank, Bangladesh Development Bank (BDBL) and Basic Bank. Among these three banks, Md. Anwarul Islam was serving as MD and CEO of Agrani Bank PLC, Md. Jasim Uddin as MD of Bangladesh Development Bank and Md. Kamruzzaman Khan as MD of Basic Bank. This information was given in a notification issued by the State-Owned Commercial Bank-1 branch of the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday (September 2).
The notification signed by Deputy Secretary Afroza Akhter Riba said that Agrani Bank PLC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Md. Anwarul Islam, Bangladesh Development Bank Managing Director Md. Jasim Uddin and Basic Bank Managing Director Md. The government has recommended and agreed to cancel the remaining term of the contractual appointment of the board of directors of the bank concerned with Kamruzzaman Khan. The notification further said that in accordance with the terms of the Bank Companies Act and the agreement signed with the board of directors, the remaining term of the contractual appointment of Agrani Bank MD and CEO Md. Anwarul Islam has been canceled. The chairman of the board of directors of Agrani Bank has been requested to take further legal action in this regard. After this decision of the government, the boards of directors of the banks will complete the next process of canceling their appointments in accordance with the agreement and the relevant law.
