Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury
Expanding cashless transactions across the financial ecosystem will curtail institutional corruption and lower the cost of doing business, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury stated on Tuesday.
The Finance Minister delivered the remarks at the Sheraton Dhaka during the formal launch event titled "Launching of Dynamic Bangla QR for Universal Pension Scheme, Powered by Trust Bank."
Chowdhury underscored that accelerating digitization and adopting cashless transaction frameworks are essential imperatives to making the national economy transparent, agile, and competitive. He noted that in the prevailing macroeconomic context, digitization holds paramount significance and featured prominently in the BNP’s election manifesto. Reducing physical cash handling in favor of digital clearing, he argued, directly deepens transparency across transactions and shrinks systemic avenues for financial malpractice.
The minister stressed that the national "Bangla QR" system must evolve into a far more dynamic and functional platform. For this to succeed, he pinpointed seamless interoperability across commercial banks and Mobile Financial Services (MFS) as an indispensable prerequisite, warning that without unified cross-network connectivity, the full potential of Bangla QR cannot be realized.
Chowdhury added that cashless ecosystems generate verified digital audit trails for every transaction, simplifying revenue collection and tracking economic flows. Furthermore, data aggregated from diverse economic sectors through these channels will provide state planners with high-quality insights for evidence-based policymaking.
