Aiming to deepen coverage of rural socioeconomic transformation and bridge the gap between macroeconomic policy and grassroots realities, the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) and the Economic Reporters' Forum (ERF) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday (September 30) afternoon. The formal bilateral signing ceremony took place at PKSF Bhaban in the capital's Agargaon administrative zone. PKSF Managing Director Md. Fazlul Kader and ERF President Doulat Akter Mala signed and exchanged the official pact folios in the presence of distinguished economists, senior financial editors, and development sector executives. The strategic collaboration seeks to institutionalize evidence-based reporting on microenterprises, poverty alleviation, and community-led climate adaptation.
Under the comprehensive terms of the agreement, PKSF and ERF will jointly organize specialized training programs, investigative reporting fellowships, and structured field visits for economic journalists across rural Bangladesh. The initiatives will enable financial reporters to travel directly to remote agrarian hinterlands and coastal climate hotspots to study grassroots financial inclusion programs firsthand. By documenting the operational mechanics of community-driven microfinance, sustainable agricultural practices, and female entrepreneurship, the partnership intends to enrich mainstream economic discourse. PKSF Chairman Zakir Ahmed Khan, who graced the signing as chief guest, highlighted that national media narratives frequently overemphasize urban corporate finance while overlooking the primary rural drivers of national GDP.
Speaking at the event, PKSF Managing Director Md. Fazlul Kader emphasized that sustainable economic resilience cannot be achieved without highlighting the struggles and successes of informal micro-entrepreneurs. He noted that PKSF currently works with millions of marginalized households through hundreds of partner organizations nationwide, generating vast empirical data that media professionals can utilize for public interest reporting. Kader reaffirmed that transparent communication of grassroots development outcomes helps policymakers calibrate social safety net expenditures and smallholder credit facilities. ERF President Doulat Akter Mala commended PKSF for its proactive institutional partnership, asserting that field-based reporting is essential to holding financial governance accountable.
The multi-year institutional framework also establishes competitive annual reporting awards designed to recognize outstanding investigative journalism focused on grassroots poverty eradication and rural employment creation. An independent jury comprising veteran media editors, university professors, and development economists will adjudicate published print and broadcast reports submitted by ERF members. ERF General Secretary and senior executive members noted that economic journalism in Bangladesh has matured significantly, but institutional support for extensive investigative rural fieldwork has traditionally remained constrained. The foundation committed to providing full logistical support, analytical datasets, and research briefings to facilitate rigorous journalistic inquiries.
The ceremony concluded with an interactive panel discussion regarding the evolving role of modern financial media in documenting post-uprising economic stabilization measures. Participants agreed that collaborative knowledge-sharing between development financing entities and professional media bodies strengthens public transparency and fiscal integrity. The first cohort of the PKSF-ERF rural investigative reporting fellowship is scheduled to be announced early next month, with inaugural field workshops planned across the Barishal coastal belt. Officials from both organizations expressed high confidence that the partnership will set a new benchmark for development communications in South Asia.
