A businessman filed a General Diary (GD) against Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Asif Akbar on Tuesday, accusing him of not repaying a large sum of money, sparking fresh controversy.
The GD was lodged at Ramna Model Police Station, alleging that the BCB director withheld Tk2.51 crore from a business transaction dating back to 2016.
Meanwhile, there are rumours that Asif left the country and moved to London on Monday.
Responding to the issue, Asif Akbar told Daily Sun from London that he was currently aware of the details.
“I have come to London. There is a programme at the House of Commons today. I’ve heard about the GD, but I don’t know the details. I will return to the country on the 31st (of March),” he said.
He was also seen with Shakib Al Hasan, celebrating the senior all-rounder’s birthday.
According to the complaint, businessman Salahuddin Bhuiyan claimed he handed over a total of Tk2.90 crore to the BCB director on 4 March, 2016.
The transaction allegedly took place in the presence of Dr Kazi Majharul Islam and Dr Shakil Ahmed, head of the anaesthesia department at PG Hospital.
The GD stated that part of the money was transferred to the bank account of Asif’s wife, while the rest was paid in cash.
However, Salahuddin alleged that only Tk39 lakh has been repaid so far, leaving Tk2.51 crore outstanding.
The complainant further accused Asif of repeatedly delaying repayment through “time-wasting tactics” despite repeated requests.
Citing concerns over his financial security, Salahuddin said he was compelled to seek legal protection by filing the GD.
The application was officially recorded by duty officer Abu Hanif, while sub-inspectors Pradip Chandra Roy and Mohammad Rahat Khan have been assigned to take necessary legal steps in the matter.
