State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque
State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque has issued a strict warning to national sporting bodies, directing federations to permanently end the practice of executive officials registering themselves as team coaches on foreign tours.
The directive came on Sunday during a coordination meeting held with the presidents and general secretaries of various sports federations, associations, and statutory governing bodies. Addressing the persistent issue of executive members accompanying teams under technical designations, the state minister asserted:
"Only the individual who has put in the hard work and provided rigorous training to the athletes throughout the year should be assigned the responsibility of traveling as coach on the international stage."
During the discussions, the state minister highlighted recent administrative discrepancies within federations, questioning how an official from the Shooting Sport Federation, originally designated as a camp director, was subsequently listed as a national pistol coach for an overseas assignment. He characterized the tendency of general secretaries assuming technical coaching roles as unacceptable, demanding an immediate end to the practice of transforming administrative officers into coaching staff.
Highlighting preparations for upcoming international competitions, including the Asian Games, the minister emphasized that national contingents must prioritize medal contention rather than routine participation. He directed federations to select squads strictly based on merit and performance, while stressing the necessity of appointing permanent, dedicated coaches for long-term athlete development. Each federation was instructed to submit detailed paperwork clarifying the precise roster of participating athletes, accompanying officials, and the specific rationale behind their travel.
The state minister also expressed serious concern regarding the maintenance and deteriorating surroundings of major sports venues across the capital, noting that recent inspections revealed persistent disorder. Remarking on the state of stadium premises, he said:
"Despite several administrative measures, mobile court drives, and the deployment of executive magistrates, expected improvements in the overall environment have yet to materialize. It is deeply unfortunate that certain individuals within the sports council and related circles are themselves involved in these malpractices."
