Dignitaries and organizers pose at the official launch of the Expat World Cup 2027
An international amateur cricket tournament titled "Expat World Cup 2027" was officially unveiled at a luxury hotel in Dhaka to unite non-resident Bangladeshis living across the globe under a single platform. Organized by Australia-based AB Media Group, the championship will feature expatriate cricket clubs representing 30 countries, with fixtures staged across 12 host nations.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque formally inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest by cutting a celebratory cake. Speaking on the occasion, the minister praised the initiative for recognizing the country's remittance earners through sports diplomacy, noting that such engagements elevate Bangladesh’s international profile and bridge domestic talent with diaspora athletes—analogous to the impact of footballer Hamza Choudhury. He also highlighted government initiatives undertaken under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to develop playgrounds in 5,499 unions and build sports stadiums across 495 upazilas nationwide.
AB Media Group Founder and Managing Director Nirjhon Mosharraf and CEO Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan announced that the opening fixture will take place in Australia and the grand final will be held in the United Arab Emirates, with Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan slated to attend the championship gala night. The organizers confirmed continuous coordination with ICC event managers alongside plans to launch a dedicated OTT platform for global broadcasting. The unveiling ceremony was attended by Member of Parliament Sanjida Haque Tuli, BCB Director Rafiqul Islam Babu, National Chief Selector Habibul Bashar Sumon, former national cricketers Mehrab Hossain Opee and Javed Omar Belim, and Bangladesh Wheelchair Cricket Team Captain Mohammad Mohsin. Participating expatriate teams will include clubs from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Germany, Singapore, Japan, and other host destinations.
